A cannon or a bollard?

Ever wondered why the bollards around London look like Cannon?

 

 

They Are! Left over French Cannon (left over from the cannons used in the 1815 battle of waterloo) were used to protect street corners and pavements. As they wore out they were replaced with replicas to keep the style. Some original ones remain in south bank.
