Secret London Runs is looking for a dynamic and experienced Marketing Manager to drive the growth of its expanding event business.
About the Role
Secret London Runs is growing. Our lockdown initiatives have been so successful that we need a dedicated employee to take full responsibility for the marketing of Secret London Runs. Reporting straight into our CEO/Founder, your responsibilities will include:
Creating and implementing marketing strategy for the brand
Being the voice of Secret London Runs on social media
Social listening – and feeding back new product ideas
Developing a successful email marketing channel
Partnerships with new and existing partners
Online content production – e.g. blogs, videos, audio
Create print marketing collateral to distribute at events
Securing the best PR opportunities for the brand
Producing new ideas for branded merchandise
This will be the first time we’ve had a dedicated marketer – so you’ll have the opportunity to shape the role, try out innovative ideas, and grow with the company.
What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who has/is:
Marketing experience (3 years +, ideally more!) particularly in the events sector. Any experience with marketing merchandise is also a bonus.
Social Media Marketing Skills – Facebook (in particular), Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn. You’ll know how to engage a community and audience online.
Customer-focused – Creating memorable and engaging experiences for our customers is the most important thing for us. Marketing communications need to reflect that.
Results-driven – We want you to shape the marketing of Secret London Runs, with financial KPIs in mind so that we can continue to expand.
A creative eye – so that you can create collateral for marketing campaigns and yourself.
A love of running – you don’t have to be fast. In fact, somebody who understands the need for distractions and motivation when running is definitely a bonus.
A friendly tone in communications – Secret London Runs is a fun and friendly brand. So your voice needs to be in line with ours.
A love for history – especially London’s!
An interest in video – video is becoming increasingly important for marketing events like ours. Ideally, you’re comfortable creating promo videos. And if not, you’re willing to learn.
Payment and Terms
Hours: 3-5 days a week – flexible for the right person! The role will mostly be working from home (especially until COVID restrictions lift) – after that you can choose to join our founder in Peckham for part of your working week or continue working from home.
Contract: A temporary 3-month freelance contract to begin with – but looking to make a permanent employee afterwards if it works out for both parties. This is negotiable for the right person.
Renumeration: £150 per day (OTE). £100 per day basic with uncapped bonus based on sales performance.
About Secret London Runs
There are two main passions at Secret London Runs; running and history. For five years, Secret London Runs has delivered themed guided running tours of London. And we’ve had thousands of lovely runners join us too. Our Secret Gin Run, in particular, has been overwhelmingly popular – we’re pretty passionate about gin too, come to think of it.
We also hold other special events that mix running and London’s history – such as murder mystery running challenges. And recently, in response to lockdown, we’ve launched a number of virtual events to help keep our community engaged and motivated. These events have attracted thousands of new runners too, as well as contributed to the growth of an awesome online community.
About the Team
Secret London Runs is a small (but growing!) business. We have 12 guides who work on a freelance basis to deliver the tours – and this wonderful crew (who all have other jobs too) also get involved in other parts of the operation from time-to-time. We have an intern who does an excellent job in customer services and our website. But on the business side of things, the majority of the work (marketing, social media, PR, logistics, product development, research, customer enquiries, partnerships, merchandise production) is taken on by our founder, Vanessa.
The successful candidate will be the company’s second employee. So you’ll work very closely with Vanessa and together grow the company. Vanessa has 11 years of marketing experience to help develop you personally. Together, over the next few months/years, you’ll look to expand the marketing team with you at the head of it.
With the marketing in your safe hands, Vanessa will be able to focus on developing new events and steering the company forward, whilst continuing to be heavily involved in the online community.
